This and That...

It has been kind of an odd week filled with this and that. We had really hoped to hear from Adrian's work this week about the status of his job but they really keep stringing us along. This is literally how it has been the last year. Someone calls us tells us a position is available. Adrian applies for it and he gets declined. Then they call us and tell us another one is open and the cycle continues. These are all jobs he is over qualified for but yet he still gets over looked. This week someone called and told him there would be a great job coming available. This time it is a sales job in New Jersey!! And while it is a job yes we are not able to sell our house right now and move to New Jersey.  And my husband was a little bit disappointed that they keep suggesting huge demotions. Not that we are to proud to take it, but he has worked very hard in his career to be a director. He paid his dues climbing that corporate ladder and now they want to knock him off and have him climb up it again? The corporate world is just plain evil don't you think!  It's frustrating because they know this. Do I sound whiny and complaining I am a for sure. There are some things in life that go beyond understanding and you just have to throw your hands  up and say "Whatever!!" ...I am sure God has a plan and purpose for us yet. It is days like these that are tough when it comes to hanging on to your joy. It really helps to focus on gratitude and blessings so you don't become sour. And that is just what we are doing.

We have had lots of fun recently with homeschooling.
The kids have been busy with some interesting projects. I have introduced them to Biotechnology. I thought with all the constant talk you hear about GMO foods it would be great for them to really understand this subject and the science behind it.
I decided to start them with information that is in favor of Biotechnology and then challenged them to find research from a different perspective.
The booklet we used is from the positive standpoint in favor of biotechnology and can be found with the link below.

The boys after completing the research will be writing a persuasive paper on the subject and will have to pick a side. So far it seems that both the boys have decided they are against Biotechnology and modifying food. I can't wait to read their papers.
Anna got to do a fun experiment where she had to extract DNA from a Kiwi
Here some pictures of how it went.

Don't tell her but I think I had more fun with this lab then she did hehehe....

Now let me catch you up on Moose and how he is doing. We decided to have the vet out since his feet have not been healing well in-spite of all the things we have been doing. We thought we were fighting a very nasty episode of thrush but it turns out the Vet thinks we are facing something much different.
He thinks Moose has Pemphigus. A very rare autoimmune condition. Not a good prognosis at all. The vet said we should just leave him be, if we want to try a supplement or treating his feet we could but he doesn't think it will make much of a difference. My hope is we will keep him happy and well fed and that will help to keep this disease from progressing. But were not sure how this is going to look. So far it is just around his heel and coronary band which is the area around the top of his hoof. It has a crusty appearance. If you pick at it, kind of like a scab some spots will bleed and look raw. Everything I read about it seemed quite negative. But I think we will just have to wait and see. With most cases their hair all falls out but he is not showing signs of this yet.
He is a rescue horse and he has had a tough life so were just gonna keep loving on him and treat him like a king. Doesn't he look gorgeous all saddled up. He has gained quite a bit of weight and he looks really good. He is such a pretty boy.

This week I tried out some new recipes.
We had Curried Noodles, and Apple Raison Pancake  which you can find in this recipe book
called the Gluten Free Bible. They both were really yummy.

I am really looking foward to our warm up this weekend. It has been cold here like in the 30's at night brrrrr!! The weather says we are going to be in the mid 70's WOOO HOOO bring on the sunshine!! I will try and send some warm sun your way.
  ~enjoy your weekend

  1. Gosh, Heather. I have been such an absent blogger that I didn't know Adrian was unemployed. I will certainly be keeping you in my prayers concerning this. I am confident God has the perfect job for him.

    Hugs and blessings,
    Sue

  2. You were missed in Blogland Heather but after this post I can understand there were some net priorities! The business world has become a rat race and I am sure Adrian is having a hard time with 2012's outcome. I pray however 2013 will be better! This is only the beginning! Hang in there Folks!
As to the Bio class, I think I would enjoy this just as much as you!
Noah has not experienced peer pressure as yet, and thank the Good Lord for that! You have three responsible, beautiful, loving children, a reflection of your faith and endurance? You are blessed!
Moose looks wonderful and I hope the Vet will look into it more! Either way, that horse has found Heaven! Enjoy everyday as a gift!

  4. Yes corporations are evil, pure evil! This must be difficult for him and hard on everyone. I really hope something perfect comes his way soon. Sometimes we need to look in new places not new states, that would be too much you have already moved a lot. I admire your strength and enjoy hearing you complain. Sometimes life just sucks! Sorry that wasn't very positive. I like seeing the home school stuff, my nephews will be home school too. Moose is happy I'm sure despite his sore feet. You guys are doing right by him.
    Lots of love!

  5. Dear Heather,

Here's praying for a close job for Adrian, and healing for Moose! Isn't it nice to know that we're not the ones in change, and that someone who is perfect, is? The recipes look quite tasty; just the thing for winter weather!

    Love,

    Marqueta

p.s. I think that studying biotechnology is a great idea, too!

  6. Oh, my! Bless your heart. I admire the way you "soldier on", Heather. Your courage, optimism (and occasional mild - under the circumstances - complaints) demonstrate great strength of character.

  7. Moose is so handsome, I hope that he will be alright, I hate it when animals are ill. Yes, it has been cold here! It is supposed to warm up this week which will be nice, we have had lots of plants freeze.

  8. Ugh and double Ugh in regards to the job situation with your husband. I will keep in my thoughts and pray that he will find a job close to home that he can enjoy.

The science projects that you're doing with your children look exciting! Science was never one of my favorite subjects in school though because the teachers made it so boring.

I hope that your horse will be feeling better too, poor thing.

    Take care!

  9. Ooohhhh, erg! the frustration of job hunting these days! ...and for what it is worth, I DO NOT like how corporate America demotes their employee and cuts their wages. This has happened at my husband's work place- and it hurts my heart to hear about it. I feel it is very humiliating for the person who knows they must accept it because 'where else' are they gong to get a job in times like this.
But, we know, and not to down play the emotions, that our God uses the hardships and humilations some endure at the work place.
Hoping your husand finds something soon:)

Poor horsey!!!! ...but, you've done such a beautiful job of fattening him up! He looks so pretty!!

    I love science projects too:)

    Blessings & Love

  10. Such difficult days aren't they... I really feel for you. I will be praying for you and your hubby's job situation.

I love the science projects you are all working on... I think all of us Mom's love the curriculum and projects (as you say sometimes more than the kids do), because we look at education a little differently as we get older... to me its fun to learn and I still can't resist all the books and kits and projects and supplies... Now I like to search for things for my grandsons.

I wouldn't be at all surprised that Moose would recover with all the loving and healthy feed he is getting from you guys.

Love your top picture... you might have to paint that one.

    Have a great week Heather

  11. I'm sorry about your husbands job situation. I can't say anything to help. God has been moving me into a wild interactive life of faith. Recently I wondered if I have become healthy enough to work again for money. I have been working for the Lord. it is scary satisfying, and amazing. i am going to chose to continue the path I am on. We have an income, it's not a large income but we have one and my situation is not yours. What i do know is that God cares for you and your family. He knows what you need. He is faithful and he may change your lives but you have the faith to go for the journey, you DO. We like what we know, we like what we have, but sometimes God asks us to let go of the side of the pool and come swimming into the unknown waters. I will pray that God speaks clearly to you both, keeps you united and meets your needs. You are an amazing woman, wife, mother and friend.

  12. Moose is a beauty!! So sorry to read about his feet. Lifting you, Adrian, and your children up in prayer. God's ways are higher than our ways, and you deal with it so graciously. Even if you're feeling negative and frustrated, I know that you're a real encouragement to others who are struggling in similar ways.

Be blessed, as you are a blessing!
