Monday Monday

Is anyone else out there screwed up by the time change?
I had a ton of energy from all that early morning sun I was running around like the energizer bunny until the afternoon hit and then I think I was ready for bed, and then I even felt headachy.
Yes I am the girl that if you change my life by one hour it completely screws me up.
How is that even possible?

I dusted off my bike today and used it to ride over and visit with Moose. The horse ranch where we are boarding our horse at is about 1 mile across the road. Since we are out in the country and everyone owns quite a bit of land you find your neighbors to be a little spread out. A mile sounds so far doesn't it? But really it is just a hop skip and a jump.
The ride to the ranch is really a heart pounder mostly California style which is up hill, although the ride home is a trip you can coast the whole way and not even pedal, I had fun with that!!

Anna and I invented our own horse cookies today we will put the recipe below...
Moose loved them actually I think he liked them a little to much if you asked me he keeps frisking my pockets now whenever I go up to him.

Moose Cookies
 1/4 cup of molasses
1 1/2 cup of oats
1 cup of flour
2 cups of applesauce
11/2 cup of shredded carrots
2 tablespoons of corn oil

Mix it up all well in a bowl then round into balls, flatten into a disc, place on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 until they are golden and look well done almost crunchy.

Today I had quite the experience. When I was walking Moose he got spooked and reared up on his hind legs. It was really quite alarming to have a 1300 pound horse up in the air.

I wasn't even sure what to do. The ranch owner said I should have grabbed his lead and pulled him down and yelled at him. I did the opposite I let the lead rope have some slack and stood out of the way as to not get trampled. Sometimes I think am I nuts I feel like I have no idea what I am doing with this horse. But everyday we learn something new together. I am not pretending to be a horse expert by any means. The ranch owner helped me to walk him out and put him through the same situation again to see if he would spook so we could work him through it. But he never did it again and we just finished up with our walk. It really is going to be quite the experience working with Moose and getting him trained. I am sure it will be similar to training dogs in that I will probably need more training than the horse.

I try not to be to hard on myself when I do something wrong with the horse especially since I am new to all this. It is nice to have Adrian right by me though saying it's okay. You know how sometimes you just need to hear that, and I mean in all areas I often feel the same way with being a parent, or being a teacher and homeschooling. I also find much encouragement from God through prayer. It is nice to be able to look up sometimes and say "Um Hi God Hello, it's me down here, I think I need a little help!" Thankfully God always brings enough strength and courage to get me by no matter what the day seems to bring. At lately my days seem to have a mish mash of everything.

Okay tomorrow I won't be fooled by that fancy morning sun I am going to take it easy and pace myself.
I will leave you with some pictures I found on my camera. It looks like Noah was outside doing some bird watching ~Enjoy

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand,
that he may lift you up in due time.

  1. I'm a screw up when the clocks change too, Heather! It takes me a few weeks to get used to it...

I'm no horse expert either but it sounds like you are doing a great job with Moose.
    God bless!

  2. Me, too. It's been 2 weeks and only just managing to stay awake after 11pm now!
Those biscuits look good enough for human consumption! x

  3. I will fight this time change to its end! It's dark and darker.

Heather, you have taken on QUITE the project (but it's not the first time I've watched as you match each challenge that comes your way).

  4. Dear Heather,

Oops, I left the last comment in my girls' account! The time change must cause all sorts of accidents and illness, since it does indeed mess up our internal clocks. Someday they'll wake up and leave things alone, hopefully!

Moose's cookies look good enough to eat! ;) I'm sure that you will be an expert trainer yourself in no time. When you let him go after he spooked, I think that was the best thing under the circumstances. Yelling at a spooked horse only makes it more scared (I've tried it and it doesn't work well in the long run!). Speaking encouragingly to him would help calm him down. And singing to him will help win his trust, too.

    Love,

  5. The hardest part of the time change is the evening time, after supper. It's dark too early, and makes me feel like going to bed very early. It's hard to leave the house when we have somewhere to go, especially if it's rainy, cold...and now dark. I'll be making sure I get plenty of sunshine while the sun is out during this time of year. That's what gets me through!

Those cookies are speaking love to Moose! What a nice treat!

  6. I am having a horrible time with this time change! Well - at least at night with my little ones trying to stretch them a bit further until bed time! *sigh*

I am so thrilled about your horse!!!!! Yay! What a blessing! Don't be too hard on yourself. I think it is all part of the wonderful process of learning and growing and trying new things! You'll do great and learn as you go! :) Can't wait to hear all about your adventures and experiences.

Thanks for the recipe! Can't wait to try it! :)

  7. Like all horses Moose loves molasses! Love the bike Heather and the basket!
Moose reared up for a reason...something might have spooked him?! No worries, you both will learn as a team! Hang in there!
    God speed,

  8. I'm actually doing okay with the time change. It usually gets me in the Spring.

LOL @ the Moose Cookies. Great idea.

If we ever get another pet...I'd love a few horses. Few=so I can ride with my children. Of course, we'd need land of our own and that means no horses. ;) At least for now.

  10. The time change has messed us up too Heather, we're running late for school every morning since then, I'm so happy it's the weekend now! I would have done just the same as you if a big horse reared up next to me, in fact I would probably have backed off as far as I possibly could! You sound like you're doing really well learning a whole new skill and he's a lucky horse, getting home made horse cookies that look very yummy. xx
